Gorgeous Chicago Homes

Saturday, June 18, 2011

I always pay attention to the real estate market, even in places that I know I will never, ever live. I don't know why I like to do this....I guess it's just because I love houses so much. Anyway, I noticed today how many amazing properties are for sale in Chicago.  Do I have any Chicago readers?  I'd love to hear from you!  My question for everyone is which of these you like best? Also, just for fun, how much do you guess they cost (they are all about the same).  And Happy Father's Day everyone!  See you Monday.

Mighty nice!! I love the 2nd one for all the drama it has, and its very elegant, there are elements in each home that are quite beautiful however!

You are not alone in stalking homes in which you know you will never live. :) One of my favorite things to do when I lived in San Francisco was tour the open houses - so many great designers, beautiful homes and wealthy customers live there that the ideas were endless! I'd take the staircase in #1, the view of #2 and the kitchen in #4 - does that work? I'm guessing $4M!

Close Barbara! They are all listed for around $5m, but I bet they'll sell closer to $4m. You're good!

The concept of this house was really fabulous and luxurious. I like the entire color combination and the interior and architectural design was awesome. I was amazed with the billiards hall, I like it. I am hoping to have this elegant house someday. Thank you for this fantastic blog. Keep posting.

So many of these homes would be more appropriate as boutique hotels. As a matter of fact, they give the impression that they are just that. I stopped subscribing to Architectural Digest because so many of the homes it features are vast, grand, imposing and lack human scale and warmth. They do not invite you to curl up with a good book and a cup of tea, rather they seem made to intimidate visitors with excessive displays of wealth. There was a time when an excessive display of wealth was called by the pejorative nouveau riche.
