Hotels Part 2

I wrote a post on Hotels earlier in the week, and meant to follow it up with Hotels, Part 2, but got so obsessed with my dining room and DIY Lampshade Monograms that I forgot all about it!  So here, it is...more hotel rooms for great inspiration:

Love this wall...so Mary McDonald (my idol, if I haven't told you that already :)

This is what my floors are going to look like someday:

This room, above,  took me a while to process.  Maybe that is what my husband means when he says he "doesn't get" a room I've done, like our bedroom.  But unlike him, after I process a room, I know whether I love it or not (and this one above, I do love).  (BTW, for my loyal readers who know all of my drama, he's still not a fan of our bedroom.  And it's funny, it's just the zebra rug that is throwing him...everything else is "fine" to him.  So I just tell him that I don't really "get" why he "doesn't get it," and since he can't explain, conversation over :)  No, really, lest you start worrying about my marriage, I'm just kidding and even though he doesn't get the room,  he truly doesn't care enough to ask me to change it.  As long as I don't bankrupt us, it's all good. I'm so lucky!

Heaven on earth:

In second grade, my children's school has a program called "Flat Stanley" where they send a doll named Stanley, along with a journal, all around the world (where everyone speaks and writes in English...so embarrassing).  Each school that participates does a write up about their own area in the journal, in Stanley's voice, and then sends it along to the next country.  One of the countries that participated was Greenland, where the famous Ice Hotel is located.  I remember the kids being most impressed by Greenland, and the fact that it is icy, whereas Iceland is mostly green (there's a whole political story there....kind of interesting and worth looking up).  Here is a photo of the famous Ice Hotel, not that it inspires me to do this at home, but it is pretty amazing:

My husband and I always get a suite when we are traveling with the kids.  It costs more (double), so we probably take 1/2 the vacations as other families, but it is so worth it.  We put the kids to bed in the bedroom, and then have the attached living room to do whatever we want, so we don't have to go to bed at 8:00.  I'm convinced that is the reason suites exist.  I just can't imagine paying for two rooms if you only have two people.  On our honeymoon, we stayed in a huge hotel room.  It was still just one room, but big enough to "live" in as well as sleep.  I still remember that as the best vacation ever (I spent the plane trip home crying that it was over), but I can't find a photo of the hotel we stayed at.  It must have changed names.   The trip was to San Francisco and the wine country, which is funny since like I told you yesterday in the post about wine rooms, I am not a huge wine drinker.  Anyway, here is the suite that got me rambling:

I LOVE this bathroom:

This room in the next two photos is my defintion of Paradise!

So I know I was kind of rambling and all over the map today, so thanks for keeping with me.  I'm on my way now to the county fair with the kids.  Half of you are probably jealous, and the other half are SO glad you are not me.  I happen to LOVE the fair.  I love the rides, the food, the crafts, really everything, but especially how my kids say it is their favorite day of the year. I hope you're all having as much fun today!
