Yesterday I posted about my new house, but somehow sent a draft version and many of you didn’t get all the photos so I’m going to try again. For those who did, thank you SO much for your supportive comments. It was hard to leave our house of 16 years, the only home the kids ever knew. It comes along with my husband and I deciding to separate, which I’m sure many of you guessed. But please don’t feel sad for me – it was mutual, for the best, and we are still extremely close and always will be. We grew up together and did wonderful things together, and will continue that amazing partnership as close friends and co-parents. We are both happy, and most importantly so are the kids. I won’t write more about it here because even though I am an over-sharer, it should be largely private for the kids.
Oh, speaking of…. my son got his first college acceptance at Sarah Lawrence!! Does anyone have experiences there?
So, onto the house. The kitchen is the least finished room, but it has good bones. I’ll add an island and built in desk over the next couple of months. The island will be where the table is, and the desk will be cabinets to the ceiling where the chair is, probably glass, and I’ll use the same countertop granite on both. I’ve got to do something about that header too. Molding for sure. I wish the cabinets went to the ceiling, but the builder just put them and I could never justify changing that when new. I’m hoping to draw attention away with a spectacular island and desk area.
The kitchen leads into the living room. I have a huge gray modern sectional or order for where that green sofa is, and the tv will be built into a fireplace coming Monday. I hope to have that project to show you in about a week:
The hallway leads to a bathroom and two bedrooms:
This room will be a teen hangout (note that there is no door which I think is awesome. My kids, not so much). There will be a modular sofa that can be reconfigured where those boxes are. My son thinks they’ll separate it and use the pieces as gaming chairs. I’m thinking no…. that they can “game” from it connected too. The tv is where all the flowers are:
Here is the first floor full bath with the same granite as the kitchen, which I love:
And the first floor bedroom. I told you I was going to do the mirror headboard and cabinets for show storage, and here they are:
This will be much more organized. I’m thinking one item per shelf so it looks like a department store display. Also, the cabinets have a header that will extend them to the ceiling, which will look nice I think:
And here are some of the views. Sometimes we have about 30 geese that hang out in that alcove, but I haven’t taken a photo yet:
I’ll show you the upstairs soon, but it’s been harder getting the kids motivated to unpack, especially my 18 year old son who has way better things to do….
I should be unpacking, but I’ve been looking at this sale because it is 505 off SALE prices, which literally only happens once a year. Jeffrey Campbell boots for $50, hand carved beds for $750….it’s truly the best sale Anthropologie ever has:
See you soon everyone!
